Smithville ISD is pleased to announce the hire of Dr. Ashley Marquez as Director of Human Resources. With over 24 years of experience in education, Dr. Marquez currently serves as the principal of Iowa Colony High School in Alvin ISD, where she opened the campus in 2021. Over the course of her career, she taught secondary English, served as an Instructional Coach, and held additional administrative roles of Assistant Principal and Junior High Principal.
During her tenure as Principal, Dr. Marquez gained vast experience in employee relations, training and teambuilding, and recruitment. She holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Texas A&M University and a Masters of Human Relations from the University of Oklahoma. Dr. Marquez prides herself as a clear communicator and collaborative leader, all skills that are essential in this vital role.
“Dr. Marquez’s strong background in instruction and extensive knowledge of human resources from a campus administrator’s perspective will serve her well as she transitions into this new role,” said Superintendent Dr. Molley Ealy. “With over 280 employees, SISD is one of the largest employers in Smithville, and the addition of this position will support our commitment to recruiting and retaining the very best teachers and staff for our students and school community.”
Dr. Marquez’s appointment was announced at the February 23rd Board Meeting, and she will be joining the district in March.
